SCENT Grants

THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON THE ENHANCEMENT OF TEACHING
Instructional Development and Travel Grants
Deadline: April 27, 2012

The Senate Committee on the Enhancement of Teaching has a modest fund to support instructional development and travel to conferences.

•    SCENT Instructional Development Grants are intended to foster efforts to improve teaching and learning and to encourage the development and implementation of innovative methods of instruction.  Funds may be used for one-time costs associated with developing a sustainable new (or renewed) course or new teaching strategy or specialized instructional equipment; funds may not be used for general equipment (e.g., personal computers, etc.), honoraria, or student assistants to perform marking or other elements of course management.

•    SCENT Travel Grants are designed to facilitate the participation of UPEI academic staff in conferences and workshops that focus on teaching in higher education.  Priority is given to those who have been accepted to present at the conference.

In both cases, normally the amount of the award will not exceed $1000.   There is also a limited fund to allow faculty to bring co-presenting students to conferences on university teaching.

Applicants are reminded that the Scholarship of Teaching is listed as a “scholarly activity” in the Faculty Collective Agreement: please consider applying to the Office of Research Service’s for travel and other research grants to support your project.

Successful applicants will be asked to share the results of their work with the university community in the year following.
