Students for Literacy is a volunteer-based tutoring organization. UPEI students are able to volunteer their time to assist international students with basic reading, writing, and pronunciation skills.
You will be paired with a student at the beginning of the semester and are required to meet 1 hour or more per week. There are tutoring manuals and activities available for your use in the Webster Centre in the Robertson Library. In addition, there are English as a Second Language specialists who can assist you in preparing lesson plans.
SFL is a great way to learn about your fellow UPEI students, as well as develop a better understanding of someone else’s culture. Anyone interested in pursuing a career in the education or social science field should definitely join this organization.
