The philosophy of the ACE Program is "model coherent" with the University. We hope that the ACE Program reflects the values, interests and experiences of these students equal to all university students. The program combines classes, study, extra-curricular activities and time with friends.
Peer Support Network
Peer university students volunteer to be supports for ACE students. Peer support volunteers help with reading, studying, using computers, working out at the gym, or with notes in class. Most of all, students meet new people and make new friends.
Volunteer
Each ACE student volunteers on campus in an area they are interested in working. There volunteer placements include The Panther Post (the Student Newspaper), the Yearbook Committee, the UPEI Sports Centre, Campus Kids (the UPEI day care), the Physical Plant on campus, the UPEI Bookstore and the university Library. These positions are often self0initiated and are personally rewarding for the student and those they are assisting. These experiences also provide opportunities for students to gain/strengthen employment skills and knowledge.
Fitness
Good physical health is critical to everyone's personal health. Thus, physical fitness is an important part of every student's program. At least twice a week ACE students work-out at the fitness centre with other students on campus.
Computer
Developing computer skills is a necessary part of learning at UPEI. Each ACE student has computer labs built into their schedule which allow them to become more comfortable and efficient with the computer. Peer supports also assistn students in learning and using the computer.
Studying
Each day time is set aside for studying course work and/or enhancing social/life skills of the student. This may be independent study time or it may be done with another student on campus.
Social Life
Each day there are opportunities for students to relax and enjoy the friendship of others. Students frequent social locations on campus and attend social and extra-curricular events.
