About the UPEI Writing Centre
What and where is the Writing Centre? The UPEI Writing Centre, part of the Webster Centre for Teaching and Learning, provides coaching and support for writing in all disciplines for students, faculty, and staff.
The Writing Centre Lounge, our student drop-in location, is in Room 213 in the Robertson Library Annex.
What does the Writing Centre do? We operate with a broad vision: to promote the writing process and a culture of literacy on campus, and to help strengthen writing as an integral tool for learning and thinking. As part of that vision, we strive to help students, staff, and faculty tackle any writing project (large or small) with confidence. We are open to the entire UPEI community and our services are
FREE. We invite you to collaborate with one of our writing tutors or the Writing Centre Coordinator at any stage of your writing project.
What will happen when I visit the Writing Centre? Help sessions are generally 30 minutes long. You should bring your assignment sheet as well as any draft material in
hard copy. We have a number of well-trained peer tutors on our roster, each of whom uses a facilitative, minimalist approach, assuring that the ownership of the paper remains firmly in the writer's hands. While we may comment on grammar and mechanical problems and provide guidance on these issues, we do not edit or proofread papers.
How do I make an appointment? Students may drop in to The Writing Centre Lounge, or book an appointment up to a week in advance on the sign-up sheet. Faculty, graduate students, mature students, and senior undergraduates may also book an appointment with Erin, the Writing Centre Coordinator. New this semester -
Skype sessions are now available by appointment!
Visit soon, visit often!
